Artist note

I am Brian Kims, an artist who explores themes that are alike yet different, and different yet alike.

 

My paintings embody uncertainty—they may appear like one thing, yet also resemble another.

 

The intention behind my work lies in the fact that each viewer can interpret it differently, depending on their own perspective.

 

I wanted to express that what we pay attention to, and what we love, changes the direction in which we look.

 

Through this, my work seeks to spark the imagination and invite us to reflect once more on what we value and where our hearts are drawn in everyday life.

 

Since life cannot always be filled with happiness, my paintings carry not only bright and uplifting moods but also the darker emotions that inevitably seep out of me.

같으면서 다르고, 다르면서 같은 주제를 전하는 브라이언 킴스입니다.

 

저의 그림은 이것 같기도 하고 저것 같기도 한 불확실성을 담고 있습니다.

 

작품의 의도는 관객의 시선에 따라 각기 다르게 해석될 수 있다는 점에 있습니다.

 

무엇에 관심이 있고 무엇을 좋아하느냐에 따라 그 사람이 바라보는 방향도 달라진다는 것을 보여주고 싶었습니다.

 

그래서 저는 일상 속에서 우리가 무엇을 좋아하고 어떤 것에 마음이 향하는지를 다시 한 번 되돌아보게 하는, 상상을 자극하는 작업을 하고 있습니다.

 

삶은 언제나 행복할 수만은 없기에 저의 작품에서도 밝은 분위기의 작업뿐 아니라 저도 모르게 스며 나오는 어두운 감정들도 함께 담겨 있습니다.
